About the Contemporary Theater Company

The Contemporary Theater Company (CTC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit operating in Wakefield Rhode Island.  It is one of the largest community, non-profit theaters operating in Rhode Island.  The CTC offers year-round programming with the objective of enriching our community through open events, diverse programming, and maximizing opportunities for community participation.  We provide an engaging, exciting, and entertaining space for people to come together and experience the arts.  The organization enjoys a wide network of companion organizations that support the theater’s vision and continued growth.

Position Summary

The CTC is seeking a driven, creative, objective-oriented Executive Director to take on tactical and strategic leadership of theater operations.  In this position, a candidate will need to be familiar with the operations of a community theater, and be prepared to take charge as a principal leader of the theater’s growth and development in the coming years.  A successful Executive Director will be able to:

 

  • Perform as oversight for general management of the theater staff and the day to day activities.  This will include coordinating staff work assignments, running staff meetings, evaluating staff performance, and setting goals and expectations for staff achievements in collaboration with staff members.

  • Provide the theater with a clear strategic vision for the development of its donor base, to increase the basis for donations and financial support, and provide for the sustainment of the theater’s existing donors.  This requirement will be a team effort with the Board of Directors, who will provide support in achieving the objectives and key results (OKRs) required to succeed.

  • Provide overall management of the logistics for major show productions, including ensuring production teams are filled, productions are on time and prepared for opening, fundraising goals are met, and that shows operate within planned budgets.

  • Provide institutional stability as a long term director, who will sustain the operation of the theater and support the vision and artistic goals of the sitting Artistic Director.  The Executive director will work in close collaboration with the Artistic Directors to ensure that Artistic goals are consistent with the theater’s values, and support the theater’s continued growth and development.

  • Report regularly to the board on ongoing actions, progress with regard to OKRs, and areas where the board’s assistance is needed.  The Executive Director will provide deliverables such as charts, documentation, meeting minutes, and other items to support regular updates.

  • Provide support and leadership for donations growth, sponsorship efforts, and business development.  Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors to grow the donor population, increase aggregate donations, and build the financial position of the theater for the long term.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Served in at least three (3) leadership roles with an established theater or theater company.  Non-profit or for-profit experience is acceptable.  Examples of leadership roles include, but are not limited to:

    • Director of a show

    • Production manager or similar production role

    • Artistic or Executive Directorship of a theater

  • Experience with managing schedules, budgets, and operational tasking for a business entity or community entity

  • Familiarity with basic business tools (e.g., the Microsoft office suite, google tool suite, Quickbooks, etc)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated business leadership experience as a people manager or supervisor, in either a non-profit or for-profit context

    • Preferably with an entity with an approximate valuation of $500,000 or more

  • Demonstrate successful previous campaign leadership related, but not limited to:

    • Increasing aggregate donations for a non-profit

    • Increasing pools of active donors for a non-profit

    • Increasing net sales and revenue for a for-profit entity

    • Increasing advertising footprint for either kind of business entity

 

Salary Range

The Salary Range for this position is between $48,000-$50,000.  

 

Actual base compensation will be based on individual qualifications and experience relevant to the role.
